Youth Volunteer Corps Comes To Hopkins County!

The HOPKINS COUNTY FAMILY YMCA is excited to be offering brand new programming to teens in our community!

We have partnered with the Youth Volunteer Corps to create and increase volunteer opportunities to enrich youth, address community needs and develop a lifetime commitment to service.  Studies tracking youth who volunteer have found that youth can develop negative attitudes about service if they don't feel their efforts are making a difference.  YVC is the only large-scale youth service organization in the U.S. and Canada that creates and supports quality, team-based youth service opportunities.  Since 1987, YVC has witnessed countless youth whose lives have been transformed by service, including Matt:

"Matt had trouble socializing with kids his age and got really upset over small things.  But things changed when he started volunteering with YVC over the summer.  He started acting more mature and showed a work ethic I had never seen.  He started showing empathy for others and rarely asks for material things now.  His general attitude has changed.  He is more responsible, mature and helpful.  I no longer ask him to do chores - he asks if he can help!" -Matt's mother, Angie

Every YVC project incorporates service-learning to help youth understand the impact of their volunteering as well as team-building games to help youth feel comfortable and get them working together.  While all projects are organized and supervised by trained adults who know how to motivate and inspire youth ages 11 to 18, YVC youth are involved and particpate in creating the kinds of service projects that interest them.  Please let us know if you have a youth service project for us to try out!  If so, please contact our YVC Coordinator, Bryce Stanton, at 821-YMCA or email This email address is being protected from spambots.
