Effective, Friday, November 20, 2020, the Hopkins County Family YMCA will move to mandatory masks at all times in Y facilities, including when you work out, visit the locker rooms or are on the pool deck. The only exception to the mask mandate is when members are swimming.
Our YMCA and others have been actively lobbying to keep our facilities open providing health and wellness opportunities and community outreach, including pandemic child care and food distribution. We do believe that with the COVID-19 cases increasing at an alarming rate, we need to step-up our efforts to keep our staff and our members safe.
To that end, effective Friday, November 20, 2020, at 5 p.m., the Hopkins County Family YMCA is required to make masks mandatory, at all times, while inside our facilities and when indoor fitness takes place. These restrictions are set to expire on December 13. The only exception will be when members are in the pool; masks are required on the pool deck. We are complying with local, regional and national calls to do everything possible to stop the spread of COVID-19 through mask wearing, hand washing and social distancing.
As you can imagine, members and the community will likely have varying perspectives on the mask requirement. We fully respect individual opinions and thoughts on mask wearing. However, in light of the Governor's requests, and our commitment to the health of each other, helping our communities get through this pandemic as safe as possible, and our strong determination to stay fully open and in service, we are moving in this direction.
As mandated by Kentucky, the Y will operate at 33% capacity in wellness centers and pools, beginning this Friday evening (with our facility being so large, we have actually operated at this capacity since June 1). Group exercise classes are prohibited during this time. Members may visit our Facebook page daily for fitness class options. We are also actively look for a virtual platform for our members! Lap Swim is open by reservation only (one household per lane). The basketball gym is also open by reservation only (one household per goal per hour) - we will not give out babsketballs during this time; members are required to bring their own.
