The Y's Annual Campaign Strengthens Communities for a Better Us

"Don’t look out for your own interests, but take an interest in others, too. You must have the same attitude that Christ Jesus had."  ~ Philippians 2:4-5

Rick Warren states, "Everything in your life is a gift of God, because God is generous. Every time you're generous, a change takes place in you.  Every time you give, your heart moves another notch up the scale toward God.  You become more loving every time you give. You become more like Jesus."

The most important words in the mission statement of the YMCA are the last two, "For ALL.”  The Y is for everyone regardless of race, age, religion or financial situation.  When you give to the YMCA you are providing children, families, teens and adults in our community the opportunity to learn, grow and thrive.  Without the financial support of our donors through the Annual Campaign we could not fulfill our mission that we are available for ALL.

Each year we hold our Annual Campaign to help make our mission a reality by allowing ALL who wish to have access to YMCA programs and services.  For over 170 years the Y has pledged to turn no one away due to their inability to pay.  In 2015, we provided more than $600,000 in scholarships and fee subsidies for our programs and services to nearly 7,800 individuals in our community.

The stories Y staff see and hear have been extensive.  I contend we make a big difference for individuals and have a BIG impact in our community: a mom needs a couple hours away from her children; kids need to learn how to swim; a single parent family cannot afford childcare on a single wage; a child wants to attend summer camp but it’s not in the budget because a parent passed unexpectedly.  These are all real stories we have experienced.

Will you consider making an investment in your community by contributing to the YMCA’s Annual Campaign?  We know times are difficult but that also means, more than ever, individuals need our help and we need you.

May God Bless,

Ed Wallace
